Mike Roots

Host

Why did you pick that name for your program?
“The former name of the show was Positive Vibrations. I decided to change the name that was obviously a reggae show, and included the word “explorations” to indicate a wide range of the genre is included.”

What can listeners expect on “Reggae Explorations”?
Reggae Explorations is essentially conscious reggae music with emphasis on a Christian perspective and worldview. Although the one drop reggae rhythms make up the majority of what is heard, listeners can also expect to hear occasional forays into ska, steppers, dancehall, jungle/drum & bass, and African sounds as well.”

What do you hope to accomplish with “Reggae Explorations”?
My objective is to bring musical refreshment to listeners as well as encouragement, clarity, comfort, and food for thought. Reggae is many ways an underground type of music, often underappreciated with very limited exposure. Reggae Explorations gives voice to the genre in the Greater Torrington area and beyond.”

How long has your program been on the air at WAPJ?
“Since WAPJ went on the air in 1997.”

Were you in radio before WAPJ?
This is my first show, though for shorter periods I also co-hosted a couple of other now defunct shows on WAPJ. One show was entitled “The Coffee Klatch” (with Sam Grover) and the other was “The Jubilee Praise Hour” (with “The Miracle Man” Robert Hayes).”

If listeners could learn one thing about you, what would that be?
It’s tough to mention only one thing. I am a recording artist, review writer, and voice talent. Through being blessed with many networking opportunities over the years I am able to communicate directly with artists and management and receive music from them for the show.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with your listeners?
I tremendously appreciate your support of Reggae Explorations and WAPJ. The opportunity to be on the air each week is a great privilege which brings enjoyment to me, even after all these years! Thank you for supporting conscious reggae music and true grass roots community radio.

How can listeners contact you?
“Listeners can email me at mikeroots@gmail.com or check me out on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ReggaeExplorations.”
